Honey Turmeric Face Mask

if you haven’t already heard, self-care is in.... the best part about it? it’s defined by what uniquely nourishes YOUR beautiful spirit. a very consistent aspect of my personal self-care routine is rosemary/mint epsom salt baths and this gorgeous, antioxidant-dense, nutrient-rich, soothing face mask.

look at that color!! the richness alone feels soothing. not to mention the medicinal qualities, just to name a few:

  • honey ➳ the base of this gorgeous mixture has four crucial components that make it the ultimate skin food.... it’s anti-bacterial, it is full of antioxidants and amino acids to heal and repair the skin, it’s moisturizing and soothing (honey is a natural humectant so it draws water out of the air and into itself), and the natural enzymes in honey open up the pores and breaks down debris making them easier to unclog
  • turmeric curcumin is just one of the many antioxidants that make turmeric healing and nourishing to the skin. those same antioxidants help slow the process of aging and offer antibacterial properties
  • aloe vera aloe has proteolytic enzymes that repair dead skin cells and it contains two crucial hormones, Auxin and Gibberellins. these hormones promote wound healing and stimulate growth hormone and other anti-inflammatory actions. great for scarring
  • baking soda the exfoliant properties in baking soda help reduce pigmentation and scarring and also help remove dead skin cells

here’s how babes!

Honey Turmeric Face Mask

  • 1 TBSP local and organic honey
  •  1 TBSP pure aloe vera
  • 1 tsp baking soda (skip if you have sensitive skin!)
  • 1 tsp organic turmeric powder (note that this will stain, so wear clothes/ headbands that you don’t mind getting stained)
  • optional: 2-3 drops of your fave essential oil (mine are lavender and tea tree for skin care, more on that in another post)

➳ mix all together and evenly apply to a freshly washed and dried face. leave on for 20 minutes while you get yourself in a calming hot bath, while you journal or meditate, or whatever’s going to take you to your happy place. thoroughly rinse off (there will be a slight yellow pigmentation that fades over time/ sometimes looks like you got a little sun), apply moisturizer and enjoy your glowy, exfoliated, nourished skin. I see really amazing results when I take time to do this once or more per week

*** note that this does produce 1-3 servings of mask, so either use on other parts of your body, share with a roommate or your partner, or make in a sealable container and use it again later in the week
